History
Power Service, Inc. had its modest beginnings in 1954 when Clyde W. Sissman, Sr. and his son Clyde Sissman, Jr. purchased the bankrupt Buda Engine Sales and Service, Casper Branch. Clyde Sr. had long experience with engines in the oil industry and installed the first internal combustion engine on a drilling rig in the Rockies in 1932. Clyde Jr. brought a mechanical engineering degree and several years of work experience as a heavy engine mechanic to their venture. For seven years they operated from a truck garage at 355 South Ash Street near downtown Casper. Their primary business was repairing oilfield pumping engines. They also sold v-belt and chain drives, pumps and compressors. Except for contracts with the Air Force for work on Atlas Missile sites and Onan generator work, most of their business was in oil drilling and production. In 1967 they purchased about 4 acres west of Casper on Highway 20-26 and erected a 62’ x 124’ steel building to house an expanded shop and parts operation. Power Service, Inc. is still in that location although the original building has been enlarged several times.
During the 1970's the oilfield electrified and pumping engine sales and repairs became a thing of the past, so Power Service, Inc. evolved to a pump and electric generator distributor. They also began a long-term effort to broaden their customer base outside the oil industry by selling these new products to telephone companies, mines, agriculture and manufacturing. In 1972 Clyde Sr. retired and Scott Sissman, the third generation of the family, came to work at the company. The 1980's were turbulent years for the oil industry and likewise for Power Service, Inc. Times had never been better than in 1981 and 1982, and never worse than 1984 through 1987. In the depths of this depression for Power Service, Inc., Tony Cercy was hired, Clyde Jr. retired and Scott took over the management of the company. Tony and a younger generation of employees brought new enthusiasm that, along with an improving energy business, began to turn the company around as the ‘80s ended. Growth and expansion were the hallmarks of Power Service, Inc. during the 1990's. Tony Cercy became our Corporate Sales Manager and aggressively pursued large pump fabrication jobs and pump sales that made Power Service the dominant pump distributor in Wyoming and the largest provider of large fabricated pump packages in the Rockies. In 1994 Power Service, Inc. purchased Compression and Components, the Gardner Denver air compressor distributor for Wyoming and Montana. The main purpose of this expansion was to reach new markets not subject to the booms and busts of the oil industry and it was a success.
Over the years, business had lead Power Service, Inc. to open branches in Denver, Colorado in 1990, and Green River, Wyoming in 1993. Both of these offices are still operating and have had substantial growth. In 1997 one of our major pump suppliers approached us about representing them in Salt Lake City, Utah. After adding other pump and compressor lines, we opened there in July of 1997 as a pump and compressor house under the name Power Service of Utah, Inc. That business has grown to about twelve people and its success led us to purchase a compressor distributor in Denver in 1999 to establish Power Service of Colorado, Inc. It has also been successful growing to about thirteen employees. Tony Cercy and Scott Sissman purchased an air compressor, pump and tool distributor in Billings, Montana in May of 2001. Our previous experiences in this business we were able to quickly lead to success and growth in the Montana market. This separate corporation, Industrial Tool and Repair, Inc. dba Power Service of Montana, Inc.,cooperates with Power Service, Inc. in sales efforts and also purchases bookkeeping and other services from Power Service. Beginning Jan 1, 2010 Power Service of Montana, Inc. has opened a new branch office in Dickinson, North Dakota. This office will use the same long-term business goals for growth and success that Power Service companies had tried and proven. There are Power Service operations in all key locations in the Northern Rockies: Casper, Salt Lake City, Denver, Billings, Green River, and Dickinson. We are the largest pump and compressor distributor in our area with over 95 employees and about $50,000,000.00 in combined annual sales in 2009. In 2005 Tony Cercy realized his long-held ambition to own Power Service by purchasing all the outstanding stock and becoming President of both Power Service and Industrial Tool and Repair. After this transaction Tony quickly expanded our Casper, Wyoming base by purchasing additional property and buildings in an adjacent lot. The Casper facility now sits on 10 acres of land, with over 60,000 sq. ft. of offices, repair, fabrication, and storage buildings on this lot. The purchase of an additional facility across the street in late 2009 allowed Power Service to obtain it’s ASME “U” and “R” Code vessel stamp. The goal of Power Service, Inc. is to grow its pump and compressor business in the Rockies both in sales and in profitability and will expand when opportunities present themselves. |
